In November, MSHP president Anastasia Jenkins and president-elect Anees Kanorwala attended ASHP's 2018 Presidential Officers Retreat in Dallas, TX.  At this retreat, they had the opportunity to meet with chapter presidential officers from state affiliates from around the country.  They discussed new and enhanced ways to provide representation and service to our MSHP members, including advocacy and outreach, as well as many other issues affecting pharmacy today.  Anastasia and Anees brought back lots of great ideas!

President's Report

September 12, 2018

Dear MSHP Members,

I am thrilled to be serving as your President for 2018-2019.  We have so many exceptionally talented members and leaders within MSHP, and I am looking forward to working with each and every one of you over the course of the year.  As I looked around the room during our business meeting in July, I could not help but notice the strength of our membership, as everyone in the room brought forth numerous attributes.  Experience and leadership within our organization, practice expertise, legislative competence, and immense creativity and foresight all come to mind as essential contributions of our membership which are all vital to the success of the organization.

I am honored to follow many great leaders in MSHP’s history, especially Courtney Davis and Andrew Mays, Past-Presidents who have served our organization well and already taught me so much.  Also, I am thankful for those who continue to be involved with MSHP on such an intimate level, even after investing years of service.  These longstanding commitments to the organization are also commitments to advancing the practice of pharmacy in Mississippi, and these investments benefit not only MSHP but also every pharmacist and patient throughout our state.

During the coming year, I am hopeful that we make unprecedented strides in promoting the professional interests of pharmacists practicing in organized health systems in our state through many avenues.  At our Board Planning Meeting on September 5th, we laid out a plan for the coming year that included continuing to provide educational opportunities for pharmacists and technicians throughout the state through regional dinner programs, workshops, and our annual meeting programming.  We also discussed a plan for developing a more intensive legislative strategy and goals for practice advancement in Mississippi.  We will continue to host membership drives throughout the state, and I encourage everyone to help identify potential new members as well as emerging leaders who are interested in serving MSHP.

MSHP provides the opportunity for all of us to come together in thought and action to advance the practice of pharmacy throughout our state.   Together, we can continue to help each other with endeavors large and small.  Please feel free to reach out to me or any of the officers, council, and committee chairs below.  We are all excited to see what the year holds!
